Why did SciFi Channel bitchslap Charlie Jade into the scheduling graveyard?
Posted by Dan O'Halloran under Television
The other week, parallel-universe jumping Charlie Jade premiered as part of SciFi Channel’s Friday night line up. Paired with a revitalized Doctor Who and ever more engrossing Battlestar Galactica, what could go wrong? Well, let’s see. They didn’t promote it on air. The webpage on the SciFi.com site for the show was a single static page until this week with no mention on the front page of their site. And the didn’t get the word out on any of the scifi fan sites around the internet.
Why didn’t they promote it? Because scifi isn’t what the SciFi Channel is about any more. Slice of SciFi pretty much nails it when they explain that the network is shifting its programming strategy to broaden its appeal. Which means no more hard scifi.
What’s a geek to do?
