Episode 6 of the new series start with the usual:  Jedi/Republic forces are on the run, and General Grievous blows it and has to flee.

The twist is that Anakin gets his ride blown out from under him, and clone trooper Rex has to save his bacon.  Unfortunately, R2-D2 is NOT rescued, and drifts off int the scattered debris of the wrecked droid fleet.

When Anakin regains consciousness he has to confront 2 dilemmas.  First, he has left very sensitive data in R2’s memory contrary to protocol, and he has to deal with his attachment to the plucky little droid.  Obi-wan is quick to light him up on both accounts, especially as, in his words. “Attachment is not an option for Jedi”.

Obi-wan finally OK’s a search and rescue mission to retrieve the lost droid and data.  Anakin disperses his troops to look for R2, and he takes his padawan, and shiny, golden, new R3-S6 replacement droid, out in his rust bucket ship to look as well.

Anakin and crew find his damaged fighter, but R2 is missing.  They then find a space going scrap trawler combing the battlefield for loot.  A quick trip on board reveals 3 things.

First it reveals R3’s inability to properly assist Anakin, or operate a toaster for that matter as the new droid accidentally activates 2 assassin droids.  Next it shows us how kick butt his padawan Ahsoka Tano is with a light saber, and lastly it shows finally that Anakin is NOT all powerful when he is forced to leave the ship empty handed.

Obi-wan calls off the search and instructs Anakin and his battle group to look for a Separatist listening post instead.  Anakin again disperses his men, and then he goes off with R3 to search a more dangerous sector solo.  R3 comes through again by first setting off Anakin’s tracking beacon, and then stalling his engines.  Both General Grievous and Ahsoka receive the beacon’s signal and race to Anakin.

Grievous gets there first and starts to light Anakin up with droid fighters.  Ahsoka and a crew of clones come to the rescue in Anakin’s transport.  The episode abrubtly ends right about there.  Leaving us wanting more in spite of the fairly predictable opening.

What of R2?  Well it turns out that the scrap trawler’s captain, a little pissed off that the Jedi carved up two of his assassin droids, is planning to sell R2 to General Grievous.  The next episode’s trailer promises much action as Anakin and Ahsoka head to the listening station to rescue… er , i mean, destroy it.   NOT to rescue R2 in direct contradiction to orders given. Wink, wink.

Unntil next time, My the Force be with you!
